Two weeks ago, Wesley Kreder suffered a cardiac arrest, as announced by his team, Cofidis, today. The 32-year-old Dutch cyclist, who participated in the Tour de Pologne this year, is now at home recovering. However, it is still uncertain whether he will be able to resume his cycling career.
During the night of August 28th to 29th, Wesley Kreder suffered a cardiac arrest. His wife and in-laws were present and provided initial assistance before he was promptly taken to Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Kreder received urgent medical attention and remained hospitalized for over a week before being discharged on Wednesday, September 6th.
The rider appears to be suffering from inflammation of the heart muscle and the pericardium, also known as myocarditis, possibly caused by a virus.
“Cyclist doesn’t remember anything.
“I went to bed as usual on August 28th, and I woke up in the hospital the next day. It was very strange to find myself there, wondering what really happened,” Kreder recalls a challenging period.
“I spent several days in the hospital, undergoing a series of tests, and recovering well before returning home. I feel good now, it’s hard to imagine I had a cardiac arrest two weeks ago.” His health condition continues to be monitored by a cardiologist and the doctors from his team, Cofidis.
Uncertain future.
“It’s too early to talk about my future. I would like to thank my loved ones, especially my wife and in-laws. They supported me during this difficult time. I would also like to thank the medical team very much. Now is not the time to think about the future but to recover well and enjoy. I am so happy to be alive!”
