The cyclist from Soudal Quickstep responds to the accusation that he exchanged a week of training for Las Vegas

The season is coming to an end, and Patrick Lefevere will soon have to say goodbye to some of his cyclists. Mauro Schmid is one of them. Next season, the 23-year-old Swiss rider will switch from Soudal-Quickstep to Jayco AlUla.

In his weekly column in the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, Lefevere suggested that Schmid was no longer taking his profession seriously. “After the World Cup in Glasgow, he disappeared from the radar,” he wrote. “When coach Koen Pelgrim asked why his data wasn’t loaded into our training program, he said his Garmin was broken. Later, it turned out he had been traveling to Las Vegas for six days.”

However, this doesn’t seem to be entirely true. The Swiss rider did go to the gambling city but reportedly trained there. This is demonstrated in his Strava data, which he shared on Twitter after his boss’s claims. He allegedly spent 3 hours and 12 minutes on the bike and covered 94.1 km. As proof, he added four photos of the training on Strava.
