The BORA-Hansgrohe’s main sprinter leaves the team, “I think I’m in a dead end”

Sam Bennett will no longer be part of the BORA-hansgrohe team in 2024. The Irish cyclist, who is celebrating his birthday today (16.10), confirmed this information in a conversation with the American website Cyclingnews. Although it is known that he has signed a contract with another team, his destination has not been revealed yet. In recent times, there have been rumors that Bennett may join the AG2R Citroën team for the next two years.

The team congratulated Bennett on his birthday on X.

“I think I’m in a dead end,” says the 33-year-old sprinter. “That’s why maybe a change is what I need. I’m really looking forward to the coming seasons.”

Bennett returned to BORA-hansgrohe in 2022 after a two-year period with what was then Deceuninck-Quick-Step. His second stint with the German team was not a success. He knows what happened. “I miss a bit of my top speed. I think I need to rest a bit to come back with more power towards the end.”

“That way, I have an extra 200 or 300 watts, like I used to have. I’m racing here (at the Tour of Guangxi) with only 1,200 watts. I’m getting close, but I can’t reach the 1,500 or 1,600 watts I had before. I think these abilities are something I can recover during the winter.”
