Louis Meintjes has signed a contract extension with Intermarché-Circus-Wanty. The South African cyclist, who is teammates with Portuguese rider Rui Costa on the team, will remain with the Belgian squad for at least two more years. “I managed to return to my best level here,” Meintjes said on the team’s website.
“Since I joined the team, they have shown confidence in me in various ways. It’s the only team where I have the opportunity to build a perfect calendar for myself in every season,” the climber continued. “I also always receive full trust and support from the team to achieve personal results. I am grateful to them for that.”
Meintjes’s last victory was in the 9th stage of the 2022 Vuelta a España, where he soloed to victory in the mountain stage to Les Praeres. “The most important factor for my contract extension was the unconditional support I receive from the team in difficult moments.”
“Louis remains ambitious,” says performance manager Aike Visbeek. “Meintjes continues to be our leader in the Grand Tours. He was on track to improve on last year’s seventh place in the Tour until a broken collarbone postponed our plans for next year. However, Louis remains ambitious and has the perfect attitude to bounce back.”
