Spanish rider Javier Romo, 24 years old, from Astana Qazaqstan Team, was forced to withdraw from the 2023 Vuelta a España before the start of the second week due to a vertebral fracture suffered in a crash during the 9th stage on Sunday.
“A fracture in the L3 from yesterday’s fall will prevent me from continuing in the Vuelta a España,” sadly announces the Astana Qazaqstan Team rider on his official Instagram account. “I’ve enjoyed every day to the fullest and tried my best, but some things happen, and you can’t change them.”
Romo was participating in his first Grand Tour of his career at the Vuelta a España and was in 43rd place in the general classification, 37 minutes and 53 seconds behind Sepp Kuss.
“As always… thinking about recovering as quickly as possible and coming back stronger,” Romo concludes his Instagram post. “Let’s go Astana Qazaqstan team.”
