Fabio Jakobsen will compete in his final race for Soudal Quick-Step this Tuesday (03.10). The Dutch former European champion will lead a strong team in the Belgian one-day race, Binche-Chimay-Binche.
In Binche-Chimay-Binche, Jakobsen will race alongside Kasper Asgreen, Yves Lampaert, Michael Mørkøv, Casper Pedersen, Florian Sénéchal, and Ethan Vernon. The sports director will be Tom Steels, who previewed the race on the team’s website. “It will be a very demanding race. Rain and wind are expected.”
“On the local circuit, there are many narrow roads, and with a cobblestone finish, it becomes complicated. You need a lot of strength to compete for the victory,” Steels concluded.
Six years with the team
Binche-Chimay-Binche marks the end of a six-year partnership between Jakobsen and Soudal Quick-Step. The 27-year-old sprinter has recorded no less than 45 professional victories during this period, including stages in the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. Jakobsen will begin a new phase of his career in 2024 with Team DSM-Firmenich.
