Robert Gesink makes a revelation about Sepp Kuss’s thoughts in the Vuelta a España

We are already in the middle of this 78th edition of the Vuelta a España, and Jumbo-Visma is still in a good position to take the red jersey to Madrid.

Jumbo-Visma started the Vuelta a España with two leaders (Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard), but Sepp Kuss has risen considerably in the hierarchy. In fact, the 28-year-old American is in the best position, and teammate Robert Gesink, who has worn the leader’s jersey in the Vuelta, does not hide his enthusiasm about it.

“It’s certainly interesting. We have three very strong men, and the best part is that the two leaders haven’t had to work too hard for the lead,” he said to Sporza on Wednesday, before the start of the 11th stage.

Sepp Kuss further solidified himself as a serious contender for the general classification during the time trial, which is far from his specialty, but where he only lost ten seconds to his teammate Jonas Vingegaard and just over a minute to Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quickstep).

“It was a surprise for everyone that Sepp did so well in this time trial,” says Gesink. “It was also a surprise for him. Now we have to see if we can maintain this trend. Sepp is believing in it more and more. The key for him is to stay relaxed. Relaxed as we know him, as he is.”
