Remco Evenepoel didn’t want to talk much about his future before the start of the Il Lombardia, but after the end of the Italian classic, he was definitive in saying that he will race for Soudal Quick-Step in the next season.
At the beginning of the Il Lombardia, Evenepoel only wanted to talk about the race itself. There was a lot of uncertainty about his future, which had been linked to Soudal Quick-Step, Jumbo-Visma, and INEOS Grenadiers. However, now, the 23-year-old rider has put an end to all the rumors. “I will stay here because the team will continue,” he said in a conversation with Sporza and VTM.
“I am very happy here. There were just a few tough moments, but next year we will move forward. We will try to build and perform well in the races when needed. I have no reason to be dissatisfied here. We will make the most of it,” Evenepoel made it clear.
No changes for Jumbo-Visma or Soudal Quick-Step
The merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal Quick-Step seemed like it would happen for a long time but ultimately failed. There was particular dissatisfaction among some partners and sponsors of the teams. Patrick Lefevere, the manager of Soudal Quick-Step, and the major shareholder Zdenek Bakala, it seems, will continue together until the end of 2025.
