The 16th stage of the Vuelta a España covers only 120 km in length but features a particularly challenging finish. The arrival is on a steep ascent (4.8 km at 8.8%) in Bejes. However, Remco Evenepoel reveals he has no intention of launching any kind of attack. “Today is an extra recovery day for me,” emphasizes the leader of the Mountain Classification before the start.
The Belgian champion had previously announced that he would take it easy on Tuesday. “At the start, I will try to ensure that one of us (referring to his Soudal Quick-Step teammates) can get into the breakaway, but in the end, I will let it go as indicated,” Evenepoel told the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad today before the stage start. “Everyone can try something today, except me.”
