Three years later, Remco Evenepoel returned to the site of his terrible crash in Lombardy, while narrating it in his new YouTube video, accompanied by his wife Oumi.
“We just released a new video on YouTube, and it was a special one for me to record. Besides Il Lombardia being a monument I want to conquer in my career, it was also emotional to return to the place where I crashed in 2020,” this is the message from Remco Evenepoel on his social media on Wednesday, October 18.
In the video, Remco Evenepoel reveals details of the moments that followed immediately after the accident and the anguish of his wife, knowing the Belgian’s health condition.
Wife asks Remco about his feelings regarding his return to the location.
“How do you feel now?” his wife Oumi asks him in the video. “Nothing special. It’s all good,” Remco replies. “Of course, it’s not the best feeling to be here. There are a lot of bad memories and a lot of pain. But I think it’s good to close this chapter. We were going down that line very fast, about 80, 85 km/h.”
“In the preparation for the race, I had these two houses in mind because I knew there would be two dangerous turns afterward. I was really focused on these two houses. I think I got a little tense, and I probably made a mistake,” Evenepoel concludes.
