Remco Evenepoel makes it clear what he meant with gestures at the Vuelta a España finish line

Evenepoel won the third stage of the Vuelta in a resounding manner. Once again, he broke away and rode solo to the finish line. Some people call him arrogant, while others characterize him as self-confident. But one thing is certain, he always makes a statement, clearly showing his temperament and how he faces the challenges of professional cycling.

When he won the 18th stage of the Vuelta a España, in the moments before crossing the finish line, the Belgian made the “O” of his wife’s name, Oumi, with his hands, but before that, he tapped his helmet with his finger.

Evenepoel wanted to make something clear, as he told the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. “I did that to say that in some way, I am mentally unbreakable. It’s so easy to put people down.” He also revealed the meaning of the “O” made with his hands. “My wife Oumi asked me to dedicate the victory to her if I won.”

“I have a super strong wife and parents behind me and a super strong team around me. The mountain jersey has arrived. After today, the pressure has decreased. Now I can recover relaxed and continue racing,” Remco Evenepoel concluded.
