Remco Evenepoel and Egan Bernal excite fans with monstrous workouts and mileage records

The 2024 World Tour season officially kicked off last week. While some cyclists have already been competing, most of the stars are intensifying their training for the demanding season ahead, which in addition to the traditional events, has the Paris Olympic Games on the menu.

Egan Bernal in more than one training session

Fans of the Colombian cyclist from INEOS Grenadiers know that he runs a challenge between December and January, called ‘Apocalypse’. This consists of colossal training, covering extraordinary distances, significant elevation gains and/or impressive speeds.

And this challenge took place on the last day of December, where he cycled an incredible 272.36 km in the company of friends, with an elevation gain of 3,082 meters. All of this with an incredible average of 38.7 km/hr.

Mileage record for Bernal

Never before, in the month of December 2023, has Bernal recorded such an impressive milestone in his training. An incredible 3,667 km were covered, reaching an altitude of 56,159 meters, and dedicating a total of 124 hours and 15 minutes to the pedals.

This mark surpassed the 3,239.7 km in December 2022, the 3,220 km in the last month of 2021 and just over 3,000 in 2020. The last time Bernal had achieved such a remarkable feat was in December 2019, after his victory overall in the Tour, when he recorded 3,643.5 kilometers, still a lower number than that of 2023.

Remco Evenepoel is also committed to next season

Remco Evenepoel demonstrated that it will not be due to a lack of training that the 2024 goals will not be achieved. The Belgian from Soudal-Quick Step published a 241.9 km training session this Sunday, January 21, at an impressive 4,983 meters of altitude. Almost eight hours of cycling and all of this at an hourly average of 31.4km/hr.
