Remco Evenepoel expressed his opinion that the Soudal Quick-Step team made mistakes in managing the sixth stage of the Vuelta. According to the Belgian champion cyclist, the initial breakaway was quite large, which didn’t present an ideal situation for the team to control it. He commented, “It wasn’t the best day for us.”
“The plan didn’t go perfectly. The breakaway was really too big. We made a mistake there,” Evenepoel told Eurosport before the start of the seventh stage. “After that, I simply didn’t have the legs to follow the Jumbo-Visma riders.”
However, Evenepoel managed to limit the damage and only lost half a minute. “It could have been much worse. I also slept well last night, woke up less tired than yesterday. So, I clearly had a bad day yesterday. Now my teammates are also better. They’re back at their level, so it can only get better from here.”
