Primoz Roglic, speaking about the battles on the Angliru and Tourmalet in the Vuelta a España

In 2023, Primoz Roglic will aim to win the Vuelta a España for the fourth time, which would tie him with the record set by Roberto Heras. This year, he will face competitors like Remco Evenepoel, the winner of the previous edition, in the competition.

We will witness this battle again in the 2023 Vuelta a España.

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper AS, the Slovenian cyclist stated that he is in his best form and looking forward to the Spanish stage: “Yes, I’m always ready. I’m excited. It’s good to be racing again, not just training, I’m looking forward to starting.”

He is asked about the two iconic climbs that the 2023 Vuelta will feature, Angliru (Stage 17, September 13) and Tourmalet (Stage 13, September 8), but Roglic believes that there are many more factors to consider: “You mentioned those two as the most famous, the biggest ones, but the battle for the overall classification will start from day one, with the team time trial and also the mountains in the first week. So probably the most decisive thing is just consistency. Being good from the start to the finish will be crucial.”

The Vuelta a España will feature the challenging ascent of Angliru.

To wrap up, Roglic also discusses his physical condition and Remco Evenepoel, his main rival. “We’ll see. In the end, you have to be the strongest among the guys racing alongside you, and you also need a bit of luck. But for now, I’m happy, I’m healthy, so my goal is to keep that going.”

“Remco has definitely just won two important races, the Clásica de San Sebastián and becoming the Time Trial World Champion, so I’m sure he’ll be super strong right from the start in Barcelona.”
