In an emotional farewell video, the Jumbo-Visma team bid farewell to the most successful cyclist in its history, Primoz Roglic, who has been with the team since 2016. A series of images shared by the team serve as a final tribute to Rogla, who is now moving on to BORA-hansgrohe.
Ferrari Engine
“We will always look back with pleasure and see what he meant to us,” says Merijn Zeeman. Frans Maassen focuses mainly on the beginning. “I received a call from a friend in 2015, and he said, ‘I have a ski jumper available, who rides a bike very fast.’ So, I immediately informed my colleagues. We tested him and were immediately convinced: he has a Ferrari engine. We must have him.”
One every twenty or thirty years
“A cyclist like him only comes around once every twenty or thirty years,” Maassen concludes. And Zeeman thanks Roglic for his role in the team’s growth. “He, along with Dylan Groenewegen, is the foundation of the successful team we are today. Roglic is a founder. It wouldn’t have been possible without him.” Roglic concludes with a word of thanks and already looks to the future: “I’m proud of what I’ve achieved. It’s time for new challenges.”
Roglic also reflects on his time at Jumbo-Visma in the video. “We grew together. We all learned a lot. We grew so quickly in just a few years, and it created great memories. And when you’re having fun, the years go by even faster. These are memories forever.”
“Things didn’t always go well either. I fell many times, and it was painful. But I always tried to look forward positively. And if you keep fighting, the reward will always come,” Roglic concludes.
