The head of the German team, Ralph Denk, announced the million-dollar transfer of the Giro winner in a specially organized press event. Roglič leaves after eight years at Jumbo-Visma, despite still having a contract in place.
“I’m really looking forward to this step,” says Roglič. “Although changing teams is completely new to me. The good memories from when we met years ago made the conversations easier. But the decisive factor was that the team is very motivated to work with me. And we have the same ideas.”
Ralph Denk indicates that Roglič was already on his team’s radar eight years ago when the Slovenian was not yet a professional. The fact that he is joining now makes Denk proud. “The decisive factor was not what he has already achieved but what lies ahead. Together, we want to make our mark on the big competitions. Primož is happy with the team’s strength and knows the potential of his new teammates,” Denk said.
“I am convinced that his personality will inspire the whole team because he is a leader with a winning mentality. But he is also a team player. Above all, he loves what he does, and that, for me, is the key to success.”
Total cost of 8.5 million Euros
Preliminary information suggests that Roglič had a high price. According to another team, Jumbo-Visma asked for a fee of 3 million euros to terminate Roglič’s contract for the next two years. Additionally, the cyclist himself would like to have a minimum salary of 5.5 million euros for the next two years.
