Alberto Contador doesn’t hide his pessimism about the possible merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal Quick-Step. In a conversation with Eurosport, the former Tour de France winner clarifies his position on the potential merger of the two WorldTour teams. While the word “merger” may not be the most suitable term and indeed seems more like an acquisition, he believes it would be bad news for the sport. Contador doesn’t believe in the merger, stating that there isn’t enough room to accommodate everyone, and it’s a frustrating situation.
He also expresses doubts about the future of Remco Evenepoel within such a team, especially with a Tour de France winner like Jonas Vingegaard who would want to defend his jersey. Contador thinks Evenepoel would also want to participate in the Tour and eventually win it, and this could lead to challenges in keeping the best riders together.
