Since October 2022, Nairo Quintana had been without a team; however, the Colombian will participate in the main cycling races in his reintroduction by Movistar. Initially, Quintana planned to start the season at the Volta a La Comunitat Valenciana on January 31, but his plans have changed.
Start of 2024 at the Tour Colombia
At 33, Quintana will make his competitive debut in 2024 in his homeland. The experienced climber will be present at the start of the Tour Colombia, which will take place from February 6 to 11. In a conversation with the Movistar Cycling Club, Quintana commented: “It’s an excellent indicator, even though it’s the beginning of the season. It immediately gives me a precise idea of our current position.”
The Tour Colombia will continue to travel through the departments of Boyacá and Cundinamarca next year, marking its return to the cycling calendar with a visit to Egan Bernal’s hometown. The fourth stage of this South American competition will conclude in Zipaquirá, where Bernal received honors after his victory in the Tour de France in 2019. The following day, the queen stage is scheduled to end at Alto del Vino, located at an altitude of 2,800 meters.
It’s not yet clear what Quintana’s program for 2024 will be, but there are rumors that he will participate again in the Giro d’Italia next year. In his two previous participations in 2014 and 2017, the cyclist finished first and second, respectively.
