Movistar Team announces the signing of a former Spanish Champion

Last Thursday, Movistar Team revealed the exciting addition of the talented Spanish cyclist Javier Romo, coming from the Astana Qazaqstan Team. The young athlete, born in Villafranca de los Caballeros, Toledo, in 1999, formalized a two-year contract with the team led by the experienced director Eusebio Unzué.

Javier Romo’s journey in the cycling world is one that catches everyone’s attention. The winner of the Spanish U23 Championship in 2020, Romo entered the cycling peloton from triathlon, and his remarkable debut did not go unnoticed. His skills on the bike propelled him directly to the WorldTour, where he has been honing his talent each year.

Despite facing two challenging injuries in 2023, including a fractured jaw and a fistula after a crash in the Vuelta al País Vasco, as well as a broken vertebra in the Vuelta a España, Javier Romo has proven his worth as a cyclist throughout the season.

Excited Cyclist for the New Team

Javier Romo is excited about his new journey with Movistar Team. “Movistar Team is a new opportunity to continue training as a professional cyclist. I look forward to putting into practice what I’ve learned in these three years at Astana and having the extra motivation to race for the top Spanish team is a great incentive,” said Romo.

The young cyclist has great aspirations for his future with the team: “I want to show that I’m a more mature cyclist than I was a few years ago and that I can maintain the high level I’ve shown on some days of the season but for longer periods throughout the year. On the other hand, I believe I can achieve victories and also help my teammates achieve them.”
