Miguel Indurain doesn’t bet on Sepp Kuss for the remainder of the Vuelta and reveals his favorites

The Vuelta was visited yesterday by the five-time Tour de France champion, Miguel Indurain. He decided to go to Valladolid to watch the race in which he was dominant during his winning period: the time trial. The Spanish cyclist, now 59 years old, spoke to the VTM channel about his impressions of the Vuelta a España 2023.

Indurain was asked about Remco Evenepoel. “I see him as a very complete cyclist, but the competition is tough in this Vuelta. In Jumbo, there are three contenders for the title, and we also have riders like Juan Ayuso and Enric Mas. But Evenepoel is holding up well for now,” said Indurain, who never won the Spanish competition. His best result was in 1991 when he finished in second place, behind his compatriot Melchor Mauri.

Favorites for the victory

“Roglic-Evenepoel, I think that will be the duel for the overall victory, due to the time trial. Evenepoel has a good advantage over his rivals (at the end of the stage, this advantage was not confirmed so categorically), but there’s still a lot to come. I’m thinking about the stage to Tourmalet and also the mountains of Asturias,” concludes the five-time Tour de France champion.
