The 2024 season may seem distant, however, Mattias Skjelmose already has his schedule set. He has the Vuelta a España as one of his main targets, as revealed during an appearance on the “Bobby and Jens” podcast, hosted by Jens Voigt and Bobby Julich.
“I want to have a very good week in the Ardennes, aiming to improve my result in Liège-Bastogne-Liège,” Skjelmose begins, who finished ninth in “La Doyenne” last year. Shortly before that, he also stepped onto the podium at Flèche Wallonne (2nd), and he had a good result in the Amstel Gold Race (8th). “After that, my complete focus will be on the Critérium du Dauphiné, and hopefully, the Olympics. Then the Vuelta will be a major goal, followed by the World Championship.”
No Tour de France in the 2024 schedule
Skjelmose made his Tour de France debut last season, but he will skip the Tour next year. In 2025, he will return to La Grande Boucle. “That’s why I’m doing the Vuelta this year. Kim (Kim Andersen, sports director of Lidl-Trek) has developed a good training program with the goal of securing a classification in the Vuelta, so that I already have a Grand Tour classification under my belt before focusing everything on the Tour de France in 2025.”
