A few days ago, it was announced that Mark Cavendish will continue as a cyclist for Astana Qazaqstan Team for one more year, but the British sprinter can still be seen in action this season. Cavendish has fully recovered from his collarbone fracture and is part of the team for the Tour of Turkey (October 8 to 15).
Astana Qazaqstan Team announced last Wednesday that Mark Cavendish will continue as a professional for one more year. The 38-year-old British cyclist initially planned to retire after this year, but after his crash and withdrawal from the Tour de France, plans changed. As a result, Cavendish will still be in action in 2024 and can also be seen in the Tour of Turkey next week.
Cavendish is the standout name in the Kazakhstan team, although the Kazakh outfit still has two fast men in its ranks, Cees Bol and Gleb Syritsa. Syritsa won two stages of the Tour de Langkawi last month.
First duel with Jasper Philipsen
The 58th edition of the Tour of Turkey starts tomorrow with a flat 175-kilometer stage in Antalya. Cavendish will undoubtedly try to vie for victory in the stage, although he will have to contend with the favorite Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin Deceuninck).
