Lidl-Trek’s Mads Pedersen took victory on the Etoile de Bessèges. In the exciting final Time Trial, the Danish cyclist secured second place, which guaranteed him the overall title of the competition. Frenchman Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) closed the competition with victory in the final time trial.
Final with the traditional Time Trial
The Etoile de Bessèges is traditionally decided in the final 10.6km Time Trial. This route was made up of two phases: the first kilometers were predominantly flat, but the competitors faced a challenge at the end, with a steep climb of 2.6 kilometers at an average gradient of 5.8%, towards the sanctuary of Notre-Dame. Dame des Mines-Ermitage d’Alès.
And Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) completed the 10.6km in 15min 02sec, with his main rival Mads Pedersen clocking just 10 seconds more and taking 2nd position. Alberto Bettiol (EF Education EasyPost closed the stage podium 14 seconds behind the winner.
