At the Grand Prix Rik Van Looy, an unfortunate incident occurred. A video recorded by a spectator captured the moment when the support car of the Lotto Dstny team collided with a race organization member after not having authorization to enter the car caravan. Carl Roes, the sports director (DS) of the Lotto Dstny development team, was immediately suspended by the team.
Stéphane Heulot, CEO of the Belgian team, reacted promptly to the news: “This is a regrettable and unacceptable incident. As soon as we heard this news, we suspended the team leader. There is no excuse for such behavior; it simply should not happen at a race. We would also like to extend our apologies to the staff member and the organization.”
The sports director and the staff have already had a discussion, but Roes is suspended from the team for the time being. “Carl realizes he made a mistake. He has already spoken with the race official and apologized. We take this matter very seriously and are now considering further measures. Until then, Carl will not be working anymore.”
