In the 2024 season, Lotto Dstny will be absent from some significant races, repeating the absence from last year. The Belgian ProTour team has confirmed that they will not participate in the Giro d’Italia for the second consecutive year, as announced during the team presentation.
The reduced number of cyclists prevented participation in Grand Tours.
Since the downgrade of Lotto Dstny from a WorldTour team to a ProTour team in 2023, the Belgian team has carefully adjusted its competition calendar. Unlike WorldTour teams, which are obligated to participate in the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España, ProTeams like Lotto Dstny do not have this requirement. Last year, the team chose not to participate in the Giro d’Italia due to the reduced size of the team at the time, making it impossible to be present in all three Grand Tours.
Important races outside the team’s schedule
Furthermore, the team has shown interest in accumulating UCI points in smaller competitions. This year, the team continues to make choices regarding its calendar, choosing not to participate in, besides the Giro d’Italia, the Tour Down Under, Tirreno Adriatico, Tour do País Basco, and Tour da Polônia. It’s worth noting that the last mentioned competition was part of the Lotto Dstny’s calendar the previous year.
