It was already known that Tim Declercq would be competing for Lidl-Trek in 2024, but now the American team has introduced the cyclist known by the nickname “El Tractor.” The Belgian has signed a two-year contract with his new employer. He has raced for Soudal Quick-Step and its predecessor teams for the past seven years.
“I think Lidl-Trek is a team that is growing and has great values,” Declercq said in a press release. “They compete very well and take a step forward every year. I’m really looking forward to joining them. It also seems that they have an increasingly scientific approach and are open to innovations. With my background as a student in physical education and exercise sciences, I’m very excited to work in this environment.”
Declercq reveals that it’s also a bit strange to leave Patrick Lefevere’s team after all these years. “Some team members and riders have become really good friends, and we’ve had great moments together. On the other hand, the team hasn’t been the same in recent years, and I’m very much looking forward to a new challenge. I know most of the Belgians very well. I think we’ll have a lot of fun at training camps.”
“I’m also looking forward to working with all the team’s riders, but I also hope to be of value to Mads Pedersen in the classics and grand tours.”
