Lidl-Trek doesn’t renew with one of its top climbers, and the cyclist is looking for a new team

Antwan Tolhoek won’t have a new contract with the Lidl-Trek team. The 29-year-old climber, originally from Yerseke, the Netherlands, has been dealing with a series of injuries over the past two years, which have affected his performances. Now, he is actively seeking a new team for the 2024 season.

Two years ago, he switched from Jumbo-Visma to Trek-Segafredo in search of more opportunities. However, a persistent knee injury prevented that, and now Tolhoek needs to find a new team for 2024.

Motivation remains strong

“I am absolutely highly motivated to give my best. The last two years have been the worst seasons ever for me personally. It would be a shame to stop now. I still have many years ahead in which I can compete. I have a lot of confidence that I still have the level I showed at Jumbo-Visma. I hope to find a great professional team for the next year where I can express that again.”

Start at Rabobank

Tolhoek started his professional cycling career with the Rabobank development team in 2015. He quickly developed, earning a stagiaire contract with Tinkoff-Saxo in the same year. His professional debut happened in 2016. However, the collaboration with Tinkoff-Saxo didn’t last long as Jumbo-Visma signed him in 2017. After five years with Jumbo-Visma, he decided to switch to Trek-Segafredo in 2022.
