Primoz Roglic will conclude his time with Jumbo-Visma this weekend and is soon expected to transfer to BORA-Hansgrohe. He hopes to win the Tour de France, and the head coach of the Dutch team, Grischa Niermann, understands his decision to leave Jumbo-Visma.
“We owe a lot to Primoz; he has achieved a significant number of victories for us. It’s a shame he’s leaving, but for him, this is a good decision,” said Grischa Niermann to the Dutch website In de Leiderstrui.
“Primoz’s dream is to win the Tour, and we wish him the best of luck. He is leaving in good conditions, and the team has accepted it,” Niermann said. It was a transfer that didn’t come as much of a surprise after the Vuelta a España, where he had to race conservatively in the end while the team worked for Sepp Kuss’s victory.
“Primoz’s departure is certainly a pity, but we have many strong riders and young riders, so we will also fill that gap,” Niermann continues.
The possible merger with Soudal-Quick-Step further increases Jumbo-Visma’s chances of finding quality replacements. “A lot is happening right now, and it will be great for everyone if there is clarity, but I am confident that next year we will have a very good team with great sponsors,” Niermann concludes.
