Cian Uijtdebroeks formalized his contract signing with Jumbo-Visma, despite still being linked to BORA-hansgrohe. The young Belgian cyclist is already in the process of transitioning to the Dutch team. Uijtdebroeks will remain with the now Visma-Lease a Bike until the end of 2027.
In recent weeks and months, many rumors circulated, as reported by Giro do Ciclismo, suggesting that Uijtdebroeks was not satisfied with BORA-hansgrohe. During the Vuelta a España, the talented climber addressed a confrontation with his teammate Aleksandr Vlasov, and later made open comments about the issue. Several teams had already expressed interest in acquiring Uijtdebroeks.
Richard Plugge had already confirmed interest
Jumbo-Visma had also shown interest. CEO Richard Plugge recently stated to the Belgian site HLN: “We are really interested in Cian. We already saw him when he was still a junior. We talked to him back then. But, as I mentioned, he has a contract.”
Future leader of Visma-Lease a Bike
“We have been following Cian since he was a junior,” confirms sports director Merijn Zeeman. “When the opportunity arose to sign Cian, we didn’t hesitate. Cian fits perfectly into our team. He wants to develop in all areas. We are happy that he chose us and our approach.”
“In the coming years, the focus will be on improvement and growth. He can learn from our best cyclists, such as Jonas Vingegaard, Wout van Aert, and Sepp Kuss. We see Cian as a future leader of our team,” concludes Zeeman.
