Despite not always happening in this edition of the Vuelta a España, Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard showed full support for Sepp Kuss in his fight for the red jersey in the 18th stage. Later, the Danish cyclist expressed his happiness at being able to repay Kuss’s loyalty over the years.
“I think everyone could see today that it was about protecting Sepp,” said the two-time Tour de France winner to Eurosport. Vingegaard is in second place in the general classification, now 17 seconds behind his teammate Sepp Kuss after the 18th stage. “There will be another tough stage on Saturday. We also have to be careful there and keep fighting all the way to Madrid.”
Despite strong criticism of the Jumbo-Visma team’s tactics in recent stages and the clear impression that Vingegaard and Roglic were attacking Kuss during the 18th stage, the duo was entirely focused on supporting Sepp Kuss.
