Jonas Vingegaard made it clear this week that it was not him but Sepp Kuss who should win the Vuelta. Now that this wish has come true, the Danish winner of the Tour doesn’t hide his satisfaction.
“We made history. It’s clear that this fills us with joy and pride, as it was truly a historic season,” said the two-time Tour champion to VTM (Vlaamse Televisie Maatschappij, the main TV channel in the Flanders region of Belgium).
“I’m very happy for Sepp. Winning a Grand Tour is a career-changing moment. He’s such a good guy, and he completely deserves this victory. It was a very special moment to cross the finish line arm in arm, and tomorrow on the podium will be unique too.”
“If he wants, he’ll have even more opportunities as a leader in the future. I hope he wants that. He’s so good that he deserves all the chances. I might lose a great helper in the mountains, but I’ll accept that gladly. Could a dual leadership be possible in the Tour? Certainly!”
