Johan Museeuw expressed his certainty that Wout van Aert will finally be able to shine this spring. During the VELOFOLLIES bicycle fair, in Kortrijk, Belgium, the Flanders Lion revealed this Friday, to the Belgian channel Sporza, that Wout van Aert, together with his team and coaches, understood the importance of being at their peak, during the week of the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.

“He can say ‘I don’t need to do anything’, in fact nothing needs to be done, but if you look at the gentleman here (Museeuw sat at the table with Paolo Bettini) and look at Wout’s record… He still hasn’t won that many monuments . It would be a shame if a cyclist like him doesn’t win Flanders or Roubaix.”
Mathieu Van der Poel supreme
Van Aert will then have to deal with Mathieu van der Poel, his eternal rival and current world champion. He showed this winter that he is unbeatable and surpassed Wout Van Aert in all the Cyclocross competitions they were both in.

“Mathieu Van der Poel is certainly supreme,” says Museeuw. “Can this damage be repaired? Yes. If that’s not the case, it will be a bad spring.”
“But I also believe that Wout van Aert will win the Tour of Flanders or Paris-Roubaix for the first time this year. He’s really focused on it. I think we’re going to have a great spring.”
