Joe Dombrowski has resumed training in Nice and remains hopeful of joining a team in 2024. At 32, the American cyclist saw his contract with the Astana Qazaqstan Team not renewed, as the team prioritized strengthening its sprinter group around Mark Cavendish.
Despite this, the winner of the 4th stage of the Giro d’Italia 2021 remains confident in his abilities, believing that he can compete at the WorldTour level and in Grand Tours.
“I know my options may be limited at the end of the year, but if there’s an opportunity with a team, I think I can prove my worth in stage races and Grand Tours,” said Dombrowski to Cyclingnews.
“I still love racing and am motivated to keep racing. I believe I can continue at a high level.”
Numbers still good
“2023 wasn’t a great season for me for a variety of reasons, but I know my numbers and performance level continue as good as ever,” he said.
“Winning a stage of a Grand Tour depends on getting into the right break, staying away until the end, and then being able to win. In a sense, it’s also a matter of luck.”
“Working for a team leader in stages is also important for a team. I think I can play both roles, as well as guide young riders who have recently turned professional.”
“I believe my experience can be valuable to a team; I just need a team willing to trust me,” concludes the American.
