The most prominent years of Jakob Fuglsang may be in the past, but the 38-year-old Danish cyclist does not consider the possibility of giving up. Still under contract with Israel-Premier Tech for the next season, Fuglsang expresses his desire to continue even after the contract expires.
Continuation depends on good results
However, the former winner of Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Il Lombardia is conditioning the continuation of his career on potential good results. The Dane achieved these two classic victories in 2019 and 2020, the two best seasons of his career, but also the last two where he reached his peak level.
“I hope to be able to get good enough results again to prove that I still have a place in the peloton. If the results don’t come back and it becomes a bad season, like the last two years, maybe it’s better to stop,” he told the Danish website Ekstra Bladet.
Contract with Israel-Premier Tech
Fuglsang would like to extend his career as much as possible. “When I signed this contract, I was sure that 2024 would be my last year. But when I started training a month ago, I thought this could be my last season, and I ended up concluding that I want to do one more. I’m going into the season with the goal of doing one more.”
