The merger between Jumbo-Visma and Soudal Quick-Step appears to be getting closer to happening. According to anonymous sources, only 5 to 7 cyclists from the Belgian team would likely be retained in this merger.
The remaining cyclists would be divided into two groups: those who have contracts in place for 2024, who would be in a relatively comfortable legal position. The other group, whose contracts expire at the end of 2023, would be required to seek new teams for the next year.
Employees in a delicate situation
However, the situation for the team’s staff, in general, could be even more challenging, as they would have even fewer opportunities for placement in the new team. The expression of dissatisfaction became clear through a social media post where a team car is shown with the stickers being removed, with the argument that they will no longer be needed in the new team.
