Jake Stewart, aged 24, was one of the cyclists who changed teams during the off-season, leaving Groupama FDJ, where he had been since 2019, to formalize a two-year contract with Israel-Premier Tech.
Unfortunately, the Brit now faces a setback, as he has to wait a little longer before making his debut with his new team. A publication by Israel – Premier Tech on X revealed that Stewart suffered a significant injury and could be out of competition for an indefinite period.
Optimistically, the injury announcement ends on a slightly positive note. “Depending on the results of further testing, it is hoped he could return to competition at the upcoming Spring Classics.”
“Jake Stewart suffered a fractured tibial plateau and a tear in the meniscus cartilage in his knee. Fortunately, the tear has not been displaced and the tear is small, so no surgery will be necessary,” the post reads.
“Jake will need to refrain from carrying weight for the next three weeks, but he will be able to train lightly on the Home Trainer before heading out on the road.”
