INEOS Grenadiers must work to continue Tour of Britain after organizer loses contract

INEOS Grenadiers is committed to ensuring the Tour of Britain continues in 2024, new CEO John Allert reveals. He is working to involve WorldTeam and cycling association British Cycling in organizing the stage race, which is facing major financial difficulties.

Former organizer on the verge of bankruptcy

Former Tour of Britain organizer SweetSpot has lost his contract with British Cycling and now faces legal claims totaling almost £1 million. As a result, bankruptcy is near. As the new CEO of INEOS Grenadiers, Allert views the situation with interest.

“We are a committed party and it is competition in our house. It’s very sad, but perhaps this is a good reason why change is really necessary”, says Allert.

“What I can say is that as a British team we will work with all other stakeholders, including British Cycling, to get the Tour of Britain back on the calendar as quickly as possible.”

“It’s an important race, not only for the UK, but also for local cyclists who have opportunities and for local cycling fans,” says the head of INEOS in an interview with Cyclingnews.
