The main leaders of the INEOS Grenadiers for the three Grand Tours of 2024 have already been announced. The strategy for this season is expected to follow the model of 2023, which the British team believes was satisfactory.
Giro d’Italia
In last year’s Giro d’Italia, Geraint Thomas came very close to victory after years of pursuing triumph but ended up in second place when the powerful Primoz Roglic overtook him in the Monte Lussari time trial.
The preparation proved effective for the Welsh cyclist, who showcased his best performance throughout the three weeks. In 2024, Thomas will return to Italy with the clear goal of reaching the final podium. Filippo Ganna, on the other hand, will focus his efforts on seeking stage victories and providing support to Thomas, possibly also participating in the hunt for sprint victories.
Tour de France Carlos Rodríguez and Tom Pidcock will be the team’s choices to try to break the Visma-Lease a Bike/UAE Team Emirates dominance in the overall classification of the Tour de France.
Rodríguez, who secured the fifth position in the last edition of the race, including a victory in the Morzine stage, is a strong contender for a high overall finish. The team’s other weapon, Tom Pidcock, will aim to showcase his skills in stage competitions.
Despite his focus on the Mountain Bike (MTB) Olympic Games, he is expected to also strive for a good position in the general classification.
Vuelta a España
Egan Bernal will strive to mark 2024 as his official comeback as a “contender.” The Colombian will aim for the overall classification victory in the Vuelta a España, the only Grand Tour he has not won yet. Although challenging, he aims to regain a high level throughout 2024 and is also expected to participate in the Tour de France as a supporting rider for Carlos Rodriguez.
