Long-time INEOS Grenadiers figure Sir Dave Brailsford has announced his resignation as team director following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in Premier League football club Manchester United.
Dave Brailsford outside of the team’s official website
According to information initially released by The Telegraph, INEOS Grenadiers removed Brailsford from its official website on Friday night, marking his departure from the cycling team he co-founded in 2009.
Brailsford must audit Manchester United
With the purchase of 29 per cent of Manchester United last month, Ratcliffe tasked Brailsford with carrying out an audit of the club’s football operations, and it is understood that Brailsford informed the INEOS Grenadiers team and riders of his departure, in Training Team camp in Mallorca.
British billionaire is also active in other sports
The British billionaire founded INEOS Grenadiers, after purchasing the license from Sky UK in 2019, while Ineos also owns or co-owns a number of other sports teams, including French Ligue 1 football club OGC Nice, Mercedes Formula 1 team and Sir Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup sailing team.
With Brailsford already present at Manchester United games and positioned as a key figure in the club’s football operations, his departure from Ineos Grenadiers is not a huge surprise. Although it marks the end of an era, for one of British sport’s most successful teams, which won seven Tours de France under Brailsford’s leadership.
