The negotiation had been ongoing for some time, but now INEOS Grenadiers has officially announced that Carlos Rodríguez has extended his contract with the British team until the end of 2027. The 22-year-old Spanish cyclist seemed to be on the way to Movistar, but he chose to stay with his current team.
Rodríguez already had a pre-contract with Movistar
The battle for Rodríguez’s stay, who won a stage and finished fifth in the 2023 Tour de France, had been ongoing for a long time. In 2022, he had signed a pre-contract with Movistar starting in 2024. However, INEOS Grenadiers was determined not to let the promising cyclist go. Using a termination clause in the pre-contract, the British team had the final say, as previously reported by the British site GCN.
For INEOS Grenadiers, keeping Rodríguez is an assurance for the future, especially after the team had to bid farewell to cyclists like Tao Geoghegan Hart, Pavel Sivakov, Daniel Felipe Martínez, and Ben Tulett. On Monday, the team also announced the contract renewal of Geraint Thomas, who will stay with the team until the end of 2025.
