Laurens De Plus underwent a surgical procedure this week. The Belgian climber suffered a fracture in his right hip last Saturday in a crash during the time trial of the Vuelta a España. De Plus will soon begin his rehabilitation process, announced his team INEOS Grenadiers on social media.
The consequences of the accident prevented him from continuing in the competition. After his admission to the hospital, a fracture in his right hip was diagnosed. The withdrawal of the Belgian cyclist was a significant loss for the British team, as he played a crucial role in the performance of leader Geraint Thomas in the recent Giro d’Italia, where he achieved 10th place in the general classification.
‘Laurens has already been discharged from the hospital and will soon begin his rehabilitation process under the watchful eye of the medical team. We wish Laurens a speedy recovery and a return to full form,’ said his employer on X, formerly Twitter.
