After 6 years, it happened this Sunday (October 22) in the 2nd edition of the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon.
In 2017, victory was claimed by the Slovenian Matej Mohoric (at the time with UAE Team Emirates, now Bahrain Victorious), but this time, in the one-day race in Hong Kong, it was the Austrian Lukas Pöstlberger who crossed the finish line first.
Lukas Pöstlberger, a member of Team Jayco AlUla, celebrated his victory after more than two years since his last triumph, which occurred during a stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné in June 2021. The former holder of the Maglia Rosa in the Giro d’Italia won with a 1-minute and 18-second advantage over a duo consisting of Kane Richards (ARA | Skip Capital) and Zdenek Stybar (Team Jayco AlUla).
This victory for the team marked the last road race of Stybar’s professional career, where he shone in the sprint. The Jayco AlUla team, the only team present in the WorldTour, had three of its cyclists among the top four, with the Australian Blake Quick just missing the podium.
