The last competitive victory of Peter Sagan for Team TotalEnergies at the Tour de Vendée sparked a wave of farewells regarding the three-time world champion, with many competitors stating they wouldn’t compete on the roads anymore. However, according to the Slovak website Denník Šport, this statement might not be confirmed.
“Peter Sagan has not definitively ended his career in road cycling. He will part ways with Team TotalEnergies at the end of this season to focus on his upcoming challenges in mountain biking and cyclocross in the next season. As part of his preparation for 2024, he plans to participate in several road events,” stated Gabriele Ubildi, Sagan’s marketing manager.
Ubildi reminds that Sagan’s main goal is to use his road schedule as high-quality training before his off-road objectives, thinking about the Olympics. When it comes to the team, one name is mentioned more frequently, the one where his brother Juraj is the coach, RRK – Pierre Baguette. However, it depends on Peter’s sponsor, Specialized.
Ubildi explains the situation: “It would be great to see Peter in the team’s colors, but this will be decided later. There are multiple options, including riding for a development team that uses Specialized bikes.” The details will be decided in a meeting in the United States next week. In mountain biking, Sagan will race exclusively with the colors of the Specialized Factory Racing Team.
