Looking ahead to the 2024 season, two aspects stand out in Giulio Ciccone’s journey with the Lidl-Trek team: his return to his homeland to participate in the Giro d’Italia and his presence at the World Championship in Zurich.
“I love the Giro d’Italia, and I would like to do it, especially after this 2023 edition that I missed due to Covid,” reveals the three-time stage winner of the Italian Grand Tour and winner of the King of the Mountains classification in 2019, in a conversation with Bike Channel.
Ciccone was the King of the Mountains in the Tour de France 2023.
Ciccone impressed at the Tour de France in 2023, securing the King of the Mountains jersey along with a stage victory. He also claimed the polka-dot jersey at the Critérium du Dauphiné, establishing himself as one of the top contenders for the KOM title across the peloton.
In Zurich, the undulating course of the elite men’s road race could be a great opportunity for the Italian to become the world champion. “I saw the route for the 2024 World Championship road race, and I think it suits my characteristics,” concluded Giulio Ciccone.
