After a standout season in 2023, where Jonathan Milan won the Maglia Ciclamino by winning the Giro d’Italia points classification, the Italian is ready to begin a new year of racing with his new team.
Cyclist debuts in the Volta a la Comunitad Valenciana
The 23-year-old Italian sprinter, after signing with Lidl-Trek, arrives as one of the team’s leaders, seeking victory not only in the sprints, but also in the cobblestone classics. He should make his debut this Wednesday, January 31, at the Volta a la Comunitad Valenciana.
“I feel good and I’m very happy with my debut. I had a good winter, focused on recovery and discovering the new team,” Milan said in a statement on the team’s website.
“Of course I also spent many hours riding my new Trek Madone, but compared to the past, I did it with less pressure, less stress for the premiere. Let’s say I took it a little easier than I have in the past, but that doesn’t mean I’m any less ready for it.”
Ambitious calendar for 2024
“After the Volta a La Comunidad Valenciana, I will continue with a training block, then comes the first taste of Belgium with the opening weekend. In March I will race Tirreno-Adriatico and Milan-Sanremo, before heading back north again for a full immersion in the classics,” he says.
“From Gent-Wevelgem to Paris-Roubaix. It is an ambitious and demanding schedule, which I intend to tackle step by step. I want to grow and learn; That’s what the team is asking of me too.”
