The 2022 Giro d’Italia, the 105th edition of the prestigious road cycling race, took place from May 6 to May 29, 2022. It is one of the three Grand Tours of the cycling season and is part of the UCI World Tour 2022 as a category 2.UWT event.
The overall winner of the race was the Australian cyclist Jai Hindley, riding for Bora-Hansgrohe. Hindley not only claimed victory in the 9th stage but also secured the general classification, finishing 1 minute and 18 seconds ahead of the favorite and former winner, Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz of Ineos-Grenadiers. The podium was completed by the Spanish rider Mikel Landa, whose team Bahrain Victorious won the team classification.
French cyclist Arnaud Démare, representing Groupama-FDJ, won three stages in sprint finishes and also secured the points classification. Meanwhile, Dutch cyclist Koen Bouwman of Jumbo-Visma claimed the mountain classification and won two mountain stages. Spanish rider Juan Pedro López, racing for Trek-Segafredo, finished tenth in the general classification and, after wearing the pink jersey for ten days, won the best young rider classification.
