Geraint Thomas competed for overall victory in the Giro d’Italia until the penultimate day of last year, when he was overtaken by Primoz Roglic in the final Chrono-climb. This year, Thomas is determined to seek revenge, as well as having the Tour de France also on his agenda.
Strong support for the Giro d’Italia
The always well-informed British website GCN reveals that Thymen Arensman and newcomer Tobias Foss, (ex-Jumbo-Visma), are also expected to start the competition.
Arensman will once again take on the role of gregarious luxury rider, following the same role as last year, which resulted in an impressive sixth place for the Dutch cyclist.
Former Time Trial world champion Foss will also play a crucial role in the mountains, in 2021 he took ninth place in the Giro d’Italia.
Big names complement the list
The current world record holder, Filippo Ganna, is confirmed to compete at home, where he has already shone by winning six stages of the Giro.
Salvatore Puccio, Magnus Sheffield and Ben Swift are among the candidates to join the team at the Giro, as are sprinter Elia Viviani and climbers Ethan Hayter and Jhonatan Narváez, who will be free to try for stage success.
