Having recently extended his contract for another two years with INEOS Grenadiers, Geraint Thomas will continue to play a central role in the team’s pursuit of victories.
As a former Tour de France winner, Thomas has achieved four podium finishes in Grand Tours, particularly standing out in the 2023 Giro d’Italia, where he fell just 14 seconds short of claiming the Maglia Rosa, finishing second to Primoz Roglic.
In the second Grand Tour of 2023, things didn’t go as planned. In his second Grand Tour of 2023, however, Thomas couldn’t replicate his previous form, finishing 31st in the general classification. Despite this, his focus now turns to new goals, remaining determined in the pursuit of stage victories.
Participating in two Grand Tours in the same year was not a new challenge for Thomas. In 2015, the Welsh cyclist took part in both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. However, in that year, he wasn’t in the position of the team leader. Instead, he played a crucial role in assisting Chris Froome in securing his second of four victories in the Maillot Jaune.
However, in the subsequent Vuelta, after Froome’s crash, Thomas couldn’t deliver any significant results in the absence of his leader.

Speaking on the Rouleur Live podcast, Thomas revealed that he never wants to participate in two Grand Tours in the same season again. “It’s the first time I’ve done two Grand Tours in the same year, it was a massive learning experience,” he said. “Not that I’m going to use it (that experience), because I’ll never do it again,” he said, sporting a relaxed smile.
