Former two-time World Champion is competing in his final races before retirement

Rohan Dennis will compete in his final professional cycling races in Canada. The Australian cyclist, a former two-time World Time Trial Champion (2018, 2019), has been called up by the Jumbo-Visma team to participate in the GP de Quebec (September 8) and the GP de Montreal (September 10). However, there is uncertainty regarding his physical condition.

Dennis suffered a crash during the World Time Trial Championship and is still recovering from the consequences of that accident. “We really appreciate the fact that he made the trip,” said sports director Frans Maassen.

“That characterizes the professional Rohan is,” Maassen continues. “In this period, especially due to the many races, we are not very well stocked with available riders. Rohan is fully committed to the team here. He didn’t hesitate for a moment and was ready to assist the team as the situation required. He deserved a better farewell, but it’s not possible.”

Dennis, 33 years old, announced earlier this year that he would be retiring from cycling. “In sports, and also in many other moments, at some point, you feel content and happy with what you’ve achieved. Then you realize that the strength you had before is no longer there, and so the consistency in your performance disappears. That feeling took over me more and more. And I don’t want to be someone who has a contract and receives a salary,” he explained to the Dutch website WielerFlits.
