Former teammate of Primoz Roglic claims: “I see Roglic potentially moving to INEOS or Lidl-Trek”

Jumbo-Visma has proven to be the dominant force in Grand Tour cycling by winning all three major tours in 2023, including the recent Vuelta a España, where they completed the podium with Sepp Kuss, Jonas Vingegaard, and Primoz Roglic. However, their former teammate, Amund Jansen, does not believe that this dominance will last much longer.

“I think things are going well for them now. When I turned professional with Jumbo-Visma, Quick-Step was dominant in the classics. Everything was against us at that time. When you’re in a winning streak, everything else falls into place,” explains the 29-year-old Norwegian, who currently rides for Team Jayco-AlUla, in a conversation with the Dutch website IDL Pro Cycling.

“But I believe we will all forget how well Jumbo-Visma performed in two years, because then another team will win everything. A bit like what happened with Team Sky during the times of Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome, within three years.”

For a long time, the leadership role was undoubtedly in the hands of Primoz Roglic. However, Jonas Vingegaard’s consecutive victories in the Tour de France made many see him as the leader, surpassing his Slovenian teammate. However, in the Vuelta, both played a crucial role in supporting Sepp Kuss.

“You can’t keep so many good cyclists together for too long. They all have their own ambitions. At some point, some of them will choose another team. That’s why I see Roglic potentially moving to INEOS Grenadiers or Lidl-Trek,” predicts Jansen. “That would be a quite logical choice. And it would prevent Jumbo-Visma from maintaining its stunning success in 2023,” concludes Amund Jansen.
